The Candy Weevils[1] are small insects that appear in Little Nightmares III and Sickly Sweet, as recurring minor enemies in the Candy Factory. They are aggressive bugs that devour meat and candy in the factory; they come out to eat in the dark because they are afraid of direct light.

Profile[]

Appearance[]

The Candy Weevils appear to be small, brown arthropoids with six legs. Unlike most Weevil species, they do not have a rostrum jutting out in front of their face. Their heads do not have any definable seperation between their thorax and abdomen.

Story[]

Sickly Sweet[]

In Sickly Sweet, the Candy Weevils are first heard in the storage room. After the several pieces of metal in the room falls to the side, the bugs are heard by Needle and Peejay, particularly scaring the former. Peejay decides to take the lead, and wrapping up his blanket, he starts chasing the Weevils. However, the Weevils always seem to be in a different place from him, as he can only hear their skittering, but never actually find them. He comes to the conclusion that the skittering is only to hunt them in the background, without being able to be actually confronted.

They're then heard by Needle and Peejay as they navigate through the vents after escaping the Herd. In the vents, the two kids found a split path, where from one side, they could hear the chittering of the Candy Weevils. Peejay proposes to go through the side they could hear the Weevils from and Needle follows. As the two dive deeper in the vent, the chitter grows louder, as the two can hear what feel like groans and wales, before the vent slides open and the two fall down in the Tasting Room, where a member of the Herd is laying down, tasting candy. The Weevils soon followed as they started pouring down in the room, where they were quickly noticed by the Herd. A member of the Herd then left and soon came back with a fumigation machine, a single purple puff of it killing a Weevil, flipping it over. In an attempt to distract the herd, Needle and Peejay throw a Weevil into the mouth of the eating Herd, causing it to start twitching and choking and making two Herd members run out to find help. Later, as Needle and Peejay try to make their escape, a Weevil twitches in front of them with its last strenghts. One of the two kids throw the Weevil in the Herd's mouth once again, causing it to start trashing the place.

Little Nightmares III[]

At the end of the first third of the Candy Factory, Low and Alone make their first encounter with a swarm of Weevils occupying a shadowy section of the factory. They use the light from a battery to cause them to scurry away. Sometime later, they arrive in a room with a Weevil-infested pile of candy. To get around this, Low scales the wall behind them. On the other side, he flips a switch, activating a light that scares the Weevils away.

Later in a storage room, Low and Alone encounter another path obstructed by Weevils, and so they use an illuminated battery to clear the way.

While Candy Weevils continue to appear throughout the level, they no longer serve as obstacles after this point.

Strategy[]

When encountered in lit areas, the Candy Weevils are small in numbers and quick to hide. When in dimly lit areas, the Candy Weevils will gather in large numbers. If approached, they will swarm their target and devour them. In order to repel the Weevils, Low and Alone must carry a battery light, which they will vehemently evade.

In the room with the pipe of spilling candy, Low must traverse the wall behind the pipe and make his way to the other side. After reaching the other side, he will find a light switch.
