The term Resident[1][2] is used to refer to the threatening monsters that serve as the main antagonistic species of the Little Nightmares franchise. They are feral beings warped by the nightmarish dimension known as The Nowhere. Residents often hunt and kill children that are unfortunate enough to end up in the Nowhere. Unlike the children, the Residents are more aggressive and their behavior is primarily instinctual or desire driven to a twisted degree.[3]
Children have the ability to turn into Residents. This was demonstrated twice in Little Nightmares II, when Six turned into Monster Six and Mono turned into the Thin Man.
Theories
- According to the official Little Nightmares twitter page, "Your inner child is the only thing standing between you and life as a Resident." A persons Inner child is commonly perceived as part of the subconscious that collects information long before it is able to fully process what goes on in a persons life, both mentally and emotionally, often times holding memories, emotions and beliefs from the past as well as any hopes and dreams for the future. While children can become residents themselves, they do not turn into Residents immediately, leaving speculation that the twitter page was implying that all children must lose their inner child in order to fully become Residents themselves.[4]
