Story[]
Descent to Nowhere[]
Issue 1[]
On a morning, Myra comes to Chief Downes to request access to the Milk Cartoon Cases, believing them to be linked to a homicide she was previously working on. Downes tells her that she needs to fill out the paperwork, but also assures her that the cases are not linked. Myra starts to lose her temper and tries to convince the Chief that she can't know that for sure. This starts an argument, as the Chief comments on Myra's appearance and decides to suspend her, before Myra decides to resign herself. Before Myra leaves, Downes asks for her badge, but the former detective tells her to go fish it of the river, as she lost it there earlier.
Issue 2[]
At the end of the second issue, Marion warns Myra that Chief Downes caught wind of their investigation. He states she was angry and wanted both of them in her office at first light.
Issue 3[]
Chief Downes meets Myra and Marion at the Sunrise, where she applies lipstick on a mirror as she lists everything the two have done. She expresses disappointment in the two, towards Myra in particular. Downes shows Myra a pocket watch and starts talking about her father, who was a horologist and taught her time is the only virtue, saying she spent years making sure she would be re-elected in a few months. Closing the pocket watch, she states the case is not theirs to investigate, and takes away Marion's badge. She reminds Myra that the law is not her shield anymore and leaves. Myra comments that Downes had been shaped by what the Counties has become, and says her show ends as it began: in silence.
Trivia[]
- Chief Downes appears to have a liking to clocks, given the amount of those seen in her office.
