Cici is a character that was referenced several times in the audio-fiction series, The Sounds of Nightmares. She is Otto's older sister who had experienced similar nightmares to that of Noone. At some point, Cici went missing.

The Sounds of Nightmares

The Workers in the Walls

Otto briefly mentions Cici to Noone to inform her that Cici had experienced similar nightmares before she mysteriously vanished.

A Penance at the Bathhouse

At the beginning of the story, Otto brings up that both Noone and Cici had a similar experience in their nightmares, that being the presence of the Candleman, the only difference being that Cici called him "the Ferryman."

The Theater of the Mind

At the beginning of the story, Otto mentions Cici when recounting how both she and Noone saw the same man in their dreams. He believed this to be evidence of transpersonal dreaming but disregards it upon realizing the two would have needed to have had their dreams at the same time, but are instead years apart.

Two of a Kind

When questioned by Noone, Otto reveals that years ago he had lost someone dear to him. He admits that a part of him feels that they may be in the Nowhere. This person he is referring to is Cici.

A Deluge of the Inevitable

When Noone mistakes her for his daughter, Otto corrects her, revealing Cici is his sister. Later on, Noone tells Otto she believes Cici let the Candleman take her just to get away from him.

The Lonely Way

Desperate to find Cici, Otto insists on connecting his brain to Noone's in order to speak to the Ferryman.  Unfamiliar with this name, Noone demands to know who he is talking about to which Otto corrects himself, but Noone had already realized that it must have been the name Cici had given to the one she calls the Candleman and that the missing girl had encountered the being as well.

During Noone's retelling of her nightmare, she mentions finding a yellow raincoat in a chest full of outfits. A distinct colored raincoat which Otto seemed very interested in and demanded to know if anyone else was in the room with her.

When Noone finds herself in the Threshold, she comes across a door with an eye that slowly approaches. When the door opens, the Candleman stands on the other side, and Otto immediately asks the being if he is the one responsible for taking his Cici away. The Candleman responds in riddles. Otto continues to ask the Candleman for his sister's whereabouts and if she is in the Nowhere with him. The Candleman answers with more riddles.

After Noone crosses over and disappears from the session room, Otto falls into an emotional distress, woefully questioning if Cici abandoned him all those years ago. However, he tries to convince himself that Cici would never do such a thing as to leave her own little brother behind.

Despite Noone being gone, Otto is still determined to find a way into the Nowhere and find his missing older sister. Without Noone, Otto now looks to the other children in the ward, like Ethan, who have the potential of gaining access to the world of Nowhere.

Theories

  • In The Lonely Way, when Noone finds a yellow raincoat, Otto hastily responds and asks if anyone else was around. Raising question to who the original owner of the raincoat could be and if it implies that either Cici was the original owner of the raincoat, if she is The Girl in the Yellow Raincoat, or if she is Six. Although Cici had accepted to remain in the Nowhere, her identity and final fate within the Nowhere remains unknown.

Trivia

  • It was revealed in A Deluge of the Inevitable that Otto has a picture of Cici in his room at the The Counties Psychiatric Institute.
    • Noone commented on how the two did not look anything alike.
  • In A Deluge of the Inevitable, Otto reveals that he was only a boy when Cici disappeared.
