Dolls are collectables in Little Nightmares III that Low and Alone can find. They also serve as story and gameplay elements.
Overview[]
Dolls are small objects scattered all around the Spiral. The players can find several in various areas and fit them in their pockets.
During his time at the Institute, Low had a Doll resembling Alone with him, presumably being his imaginary friend. Once found in the Institute, the Doll shines a light around itself, turning the building into its pre-decayed status, showing objects and doors that used to be present and allowing the two kids to move to spaces usually impossible to reach.
Story[]
Little Nightmares III[]
Various Dolls can be found throughout the game. There is a total of 25 Dolls. The player will be given an achievement upon finding all the Dolls in a chapter and in the game.
The Necropolis[]
The Necropolis contains five Dolls:
The first Doll is centered in a beam of light from a doorway in the back wall, immediately after Alone breaks the first wall. (Its obvious position is presumably intended to alert players to the possibility of collectibles.)
The second Doll is in a hidden room that must be broken into immediately after descending the pressure-plate elevator, highlighted by a beam of light.
The third Doll is at the top of the stairs in the large, round room soon after the climb up the vertical shaft, just to the left of the large basket.
The fourth Doll is in a room to the left of the room Monster Baby drops Low and Alone in, in the center of the floor.
The fifth Doll is in the open street soon after the unexpected drop and umbrella glide, in the far left corner and sitting on a plank.
The Candy Factory[]
The Candy Factory contains five Dolls:
The sixth Doll is in the near left corner of the Supervisor's filing cabinet room, above floor level on a ceiling beam.
The seventh Doll is in the left-hand section of the elevator fuse puzzles, in the far right corner of the first room.
The eight Doll is in a dead-letter room found by walking across a pipe, immediately after going outside once the hot-air balloon becomes visible.
The ninth Doll is in a small room to the left of the wall of screens the Supervisor fiddles with angrily, at ground level.
The tenth Doll is in a room near the far left end of the hallway immediately after the hydraulic press room, up on a table.
The Carnevale[]
The Carnevale contains ten Dolls:
The eleventh Doll is in a bathroom behind a breakable door pane, just off the hallway linking the small furnace room and the elevator.
The twelfth Doll is found after turning on the power and using the orrery to climb to the second level of the large dark room. Instead of going through the open door, climb the pile of stuff just behind it and go through the vent there.
The thirteenth Doll is in a small room off the room with all the climbing, found by following the walkway to the right after climbing across the bathtub and up the chain.
The fourteenth Doll is in the near left corner of the room down the stairs on the left side of the dark hallway, behind some broken shelves.
The fifteenth Doll is in a hidden room just past the right-hand room at the far end of the dark hallway, opened by playing the piano in a full left-to-right sweep.
The sixteenth Doll is in a room found after traversing the large furnace room - after exiting, proceed along the rooftop towards the camera, through the hole there, and across the beam on the other side.
The seventeenth Doll is found soon after your first real fight with the Puppets, after emerging from the hole under the floor - go left, into the structure there, and up its right wall to a ledge.
The eighteenth Doll is found by descending with the well-like contraption in the background to a hidden room, then continuing to the right until the lantern.
The nineteenth Doll is found soon after jumping down the crank-powered trapdoor, through a hatch found at the bottom of a pit you would otherwise cross on a plank.
The twentieth Doll is in a hidden room soon after the steam / moving platform puzzle, found by following the beam of warm orange light coming from behind a pipe in the near right corner of the room full of boxes of dead letters.
The Institute[]
The Institute contains five Dolls:
The twenty-first Doll is found soon after entering the first hallway of the chapter, two rooms away through the near left door.
The twenty-second Doll is found during the Alone Doll puzzles, in a room with a television on the near right side of the hallway. However, it can only be found within the Alone Doll's sphere of light.
The twenty-third Doll is found in the room entered directly after replacing the fuse - pull the trolley with you into the next room and use it to climb onto first the counter against the back wall, then the soft drink machine, to find it.
The twenty-fourth Doll is found just after the big room where you climb across several pieces of furniture and vines, at the back of the hallway there and sitting on a book.
The twenty-fifth Doll is found through the hole in the right wall of the room/hall with the collapsed floor, far from the camera and directly before crossing a plank towards the camera.
Flashbacks during the Institute chapter show that Low used to have a Doll at the Institute, likely a coping mechanism during his stay there. During a flashback, he finds the Doll after it falls out of a chute. Later, another flashback shows Low waking up gasping with the Alone Doll in his arms. He quickly looks at it, before running to the chute to grab papers and crayons. Once he goes back on the bed, the Doll is replaced with the actual Alone. Low doesn't question it, he just puts the papers and crayons on the bed, and the two start drawing together.
During the chapter, Low and Alone visit Low's old room, where they find the Alone Doll after opening the chute. An odd orange area surrounds the Doll, showing the pre-decayed state of the parts of the Institute entering its range. Low and Alone use the Doll to their advantage, using it to walk on floors that wouldn't be there without its help. With its help, they find a fuse and run back to a gate to power it up. They later find the Doll again, this time briefly using it to have a floor to walk on while walking through a few rooms. They eventually leave it on a room with a bed marked #1229, as they wouldn't be able to move on if they carried it.
The post-credits scene shows the doll in a box next to the shattered mirror.
Trivia[]
- Each Doll collected will show up in the chapter selection menu.
- The sound that plays whenever a Doll is picked up is the same one that plays whenever you find a hat in Little Nightmares II.
