Other kids call me Jester, because I never run out of jokes!
— Jester

Jester is a character who appears in the second episode of the audio-fiction story, The Sounds of Nightmares. He is a young boy who befriended Noone during her dream about the Bathhouse.

Appearance

Jester is described as being grubby, he wears tatty shorts and a shirt decorated in pin-badges.

Personality

Jester described himself as someone who was always telling jokes. However, Noone later describes Jester as someone who lost parts of himself. Whenever he would begin to tell a joke, he would forget to include the punchline, expressing a lost face Noone said was similar to her grandmothers.

The Sounds of Nightmares

A Penance at the Bathhouse

At the beginning of Noone's dream, Jester had encountered Noone on a roof top and asked her if she knew a way out of the Bathhouse. Not long after, he introduced himself as Jester, a name given to him because he never ran out of jokes. He then replied with his first joke, which he told without giving any punchline, which Noone found odd as she gazed upon his lost face. Noone could tell that Jester realized parts of him were missing, as if being where they were was changing him.

While traveling along the way, Jester became nervous, prompting Noone to suggest that he tell another joke in an attempt to help stir his courage. He did, again without the punchline. As Jester climbed down a ladder leading into an alleyway below them, Noone suddenly became distracted after sensing that she was in the presence of the Candleman. While distracted, Jester was taken away by one of the Bathers that had wandered into the alleyway.

Later, it would be revealed that one of the larger Bathers in the bathhouse was using Jester as a sponge. Noone ended up melting this bather with a jar as he held Jester's limp body under his arm.

A Deluge of the Inevitable

Noone mentioned Jester to be among her past companions that she was unable to save.
