Mirrors are reoccurring items that appear throughout the Little Nightmares franchise.

Overview

Mirrors have various different capabilities. In the first game, the reflection of a mirror was used to defeat the Lady. In the second issue of the comic series, the mirrors found in the Abandoned House had the ability to change the appearance of those who stared into them.

It was revealed in the Little Nightmares III announcement trailer that the protagonists will be able to teleport through mirrors.

Little Nightmares

Six uses a mirror to defeat the Lady, doing so by shining it on her face repeatedly. All of the other mirrors in the Lady's Quarters appear to be shattered, which is most likely because she cannot stand her own appearance.

Secrets of the Maw

The Runaway Kid stumbles upon the Residence where it is seen filled with shattered mirrors. He eventually finds the Lady standing in a room looking at her deformed face in a room with a large mirror. After she sees that the Runaway Kid is looking at her, she screeches, shattering the mirror.

Very Little Nightmares

Mirrors appear in Very Little Nightmares as background objects. Some mirrors can be found in the master bathroom.

Little Nightmares II

While mirrors don't serve any importance to the plot of the game, they do appear as decorations across the Pale City.

Little Nightmares III

Mirrors will play a major role in this game. It was revealed in the announcement trailer that one of the two main protagonists, Low, has the ability to travel through them. In addition, a mirror surrounded by black mist was shown several times.

Little Nightmares (comic series)

Issue #2

Mirrors appear as major items that are apart of the Humpback Girl's story. After entering an abandoned house, the girl and her three friends discover a series of mirrors that appear to distort their appearance with their reflections. After staring at them and fantasizing about having the appearances in their reflections, all of her friends suddenly changed form. One boy became strong, another became tall, and the last became two of himself. Once the girl looked in the mirror, she summoned a monster who kidnapped the boy who got strong. Immediately after, it attempted to kidnap the other children, using the various mirrors to try and reach them with its tentacles, eventually capturing one of the forked boy's halves. It was eventually defeated by the tall boy after it shattered the mirror, causing the kids to turn back to normal. The girl, however, became deformed.

The Sounds of Nightmares

The Theater of the Mind

While meeting with the Counsellor, Noone requested that she have a mirror put in front of her while she was retelling her latest nightmare. At the end of the story, she used it to identify a soar on the back of her ear. While hugging the Counsellor, she dropped and shattered the mirror.

Trivia

  • Mirrors were originally going to be used by the cut character the Wax Bellman in the first game to spy on Six in the Guest Area. In one of the area's bathrooms, Six is still able to shatter a mirror and climb into a secret room, which is most likely made to pay homage to this concept.
    • This concept was revealed at Gamescom 2016.
  • After the Lady is knocked down, a dark stain appears on the floor by the shattered remains of the mirror.
