Story[]
Sickly Sweet[]
Peejay's story begins in the storage room of the Candy Factory, where he and Peejay wake up, completely surrounded by darkness. All the two can make out is shelves, bumps and the outlines of boxes. Looking in the distance, they soon realize they see the outlines a door. As Needle decides to take a step forward to see if he can make anything out, Peejay makes sure his blanket is nearby, before deciding to follow Needle. The two make their way forward and end up in front of a mound they soon discover to be two to three times their size, the idea of climbing it scaring him. Because of this, the two decide to go through the sharper edges of the room rather than climbing the mound. After making it past the edges, they hear a metal creek: the metal pieces the two went through are starting to fall upon themselves. The two realize the metal was one of the things holding the mound togheter, as it starts to sway and tip. The two charge over to it and they move forward, as the tower luckily drops to the side, to the jagged area they just went through, making a loud noise. Because of this, Needle and Peejay start hearing the rumbling and skittering of the Candy Weevils. Peejay notices that Needle is terrified by the bugs, as he starts rocking back and forth and clutching his needle. He decides to take the lead. Not scared of bugs, Peejay wraps up his blanket and goes after the Weevils. Despite his efforts, he never actually sees one, only hearing their skittering no matter where he moves. Because of this, he comes to the conclusion the skittering is there to chase them in the background, with no way to confront it. Needle, now calmed down, offers his hand to him to make their way through the door, which he accepts. The two walk to the door but fail to push it open. Running out of options, the two look at the top of the mound, finding a sphere of metal, a cart of sorts and a wooden plank. The tension gets to Peejay as he tears up a little, being comforted by Needle, who uses his cape to wipe Peejay's tears. The two decide go for the plank, which is at the foot of the mound. The two grab the plank and dig it in the opposite side of the sphere. They climb up the end and with both their weight, push the sphere forward, which is powerful enough to make contact with the door and push it wide open. The sphere gets stuck between the door sill and the door, shaking, meaning the two kids have to make it to the door in time. As the two come dashing down to make their way to the door, they notice that the mound they were on, was made of candy all along, noticing various things in said mound, such as leaves and even a hand in it. The two run and pounce over the sphere as the door shuts.
The two kids, now past the storage room, the two make their way through what seems to be an assembly line. Soon enough, they see a member of the Herd asleep on his break, blocking their path to the exit to the room. As the kids come up with a plan to carry some boxes to reach the exit, the sleeping Herd starts to stir a little and looks around. While Needle succesfully hides under one of the boxes, but Peejay takes a moment to get on the same page and makes quick eye contact with the sleepily blinking Herd member, before hiding under the box as well. Because of this, the sleepy Herd member starts to feel like something weird is going on. After the two kids prepare a stack of candy to hide behind, Needle accidentaly falls, awakening the Herd member, who takes one stack of candy, leaving the kids with one less piece to hide with, forcing them to grab more from their supply. After they build a wall of candy boxes to completely hide from it, the Herd member, still sleepy but now in work mode, starts grabbing those boxes at random times, slowly growing more awake and noticing that the boxes are not where it left them. Needle and Peejay decide to stack up boxes of candy to form a tower to later drop it on the Herd member, but as they drop it on the resident, the Herd member hits a button that sets the whole factory on alert. As more Herd members come running, Needle and Peejay finally leave the room through the vent. Unfortunately for them, the Herd member now knows what Needle looks like.
Needle and Peejay find themselves navigating through the vents after escaping the Herd. In the vents, the two hear the skittering of the Candy Weevils again. Diving deeper they find a split path, where from one side, they could hear the chittering of the Candy Weevils, while from the other, they could hear the commotion caused by the Herd, which makes Needle feel remoreseful for his mistake. Peejay proposes to go through the side they could hear the Weevils from and Needle follows, determined to make up for the trouble he accidentally caused. As the two dive deeper in the vent, the chitter grows louder, as the two can hear what feel like groans and wales, before the vent slides open and the two fall down in the Tasting Room, where a member of the Herd is laying down, tasting candy.
The Weevils soon followed as they started pouring down in the room, where they were quickly noticed by the Herd. A member of the Herd then left and soon came back with a fumigation machine, a single purple puff of it killing a Weevil, flipping it over. Needle and Peejay now have to make their way out while avoiding all of the Weevils, the Herd and the poisonous gas. The two notice a window in the distance, which seems to be the other way out of the room. In an attempt to distract the Herd, Needle and Peejay throw a Weevil into the mouth of the eating Herd member, causing it to start twitching and choking and making two Herd members run out to find help, leaving only one Herd member searching for them. As the remaining Herd member continues its search, Needle and Peejay hide behind a column. The choking and convulsing Herd member then slowly rolls his head over the two kids. As he sees the two kids, it stops choking and tries to get his hands on them, being however restrained by the Tasting Room. The Herd member then tries his hand out, getting it stuck between one of the column holding the candies between him. As the two kids make their way to the metal chute, a Weevil twitches with its last strenghts, causing one of the kids to toss it onto the laying Herd member, causing it to start trashing about, knocking down the chutes. The two kids jump off as more Herd members enter the room, one holding a large plunger, now looking more worried about helping the formerly choking Herd member than finding Needle and Peejay. They start plunging on the front of the Herd member's mouth and as the two kids make it out the window, they hear a liquid, squelchy and mushy sound from the previous room, as the candy eaten by the Herd member vacates its body.
Moving onto the next room, the two kids find themselves in what seems to be an office, where the two are on filing cabinets. It isn't long before they see a face peering through the filing cabinets, looking for them, aware of their presence. The Supervisor is wielding a fly swatter, attempting to make contact with the kids. She successfully hits Needle, who's quickly catched by Peejay. The rescue is however, short-lived.: when the kids try to make a plan for their escape, the Supervisor lands another hit on Needle, causing him to fall a few sets of drawers in the cabinet. Luckily, the kid manages to pull himself up. The Herd then arrives to the Supervisor's office, helping her find the two. The kids find a bottle cap and decide to throw it on the other side of the room, distracting both the Supervisor and the Herd, who run to check if the noise could have been the kids, allowing them to make their way through the office to the other side of the room. As the Supervisor runs to check it out, she bumps into the Herd and falls back to the edge of a filing cabinet, which shakes and hits the filing cabinet needle, causing a slow domino effect. Peejay tries to jump between cabinets but slips and unintentionally yelps, getting the attention of the Supervisor, who swats down on him. Luckily Needle is quick to catch him. He rescues him, and the two dodge the Supervisor's fly swatter once more. The hit from the fly swatter tilts the cabinet that the two are on, causing it to shift to the one next to it. The kids make a lasso with a rope and a key, throw it to the top of the cabinet, and watch as it wraps around a typewriter. The Supervisor peeks over from the side and watches the two climb up. The kids pull off the typewriter, causing it to fall on the Supervisor's head. It doesn't knock her out; instead, she's finally getting her bearings. The Supervisor grips her fly swatter with intention as the kids make their final escape. While Needle confidently jumps and makes it to the window, Peejay is not as lucky. The boy misses the jump, and meets his fate at the hands of the Supervisor's fly swatter, as she macks it against the wall.
