The Hypnotist is the fourth and final antagonist who appears in Little Nightmares III. He is a giant Resident whose body snakes around the Institute.

Profile[]

Appearance[]

The Hypnotist is a giant monster with long limbs that seem to stretch through the whole institute, his face almost appears to be melting, with sagging flesh drooping off his skull a heavily wrinkled forehead and a turned down lip, his eyes are white with no pupils and his fingers appear to be almost sausage like, he also wears a pair of glasses to help him see. Each of his large hands also have a single giant eye in the palm. His feet remain bare.

Portraits found around the Institute show the Hypnotist used to be smaller, like most other residents in the Nowhere. He had a round head with wrinkles on his forehead, he retained his glasses, had a blue shirt with a yellow tie and detachable suspenders.

Personality[]

The Hypnotist normally uses his hands to blindly feel around the environment, only occasionally using the eyes located in his palms to better assess a situation. If his hands can't do the job for him, he will eventually peer into a room with his face. He is very aggressive, actively pursuing Low and Alone through the ruined Institute multiple times after being awakened by them.

Story[]

Little Nightmares III[]

The Hypnotist's first appearances in the game are heavily implied to be in Low's flashbacks of his times at the Institute, being the shadowy figure who appears at the door and the boy hides from.

The Hypnotist is first encountered early on in the Institute when Low and Alone's pathway is blocked by what appears to be the body of a giant snake. Once Alone hits the nearby gong enough times it is revealed that the thing blocking their pathway was in fact a giant leg belonging to the Hypnotist.

Later in the game, the Hypnotist's arm appears, chasing Low and Alone through a room, forcing them to hide until he's calmed down. As Low and Alone make their escape out of the room, they make noise pulling a lever, causing the Hypnotist to begin his pursue of the kids once again. Alone successfully breaks the glass floor with her wrench, making the two kids fall into a pile of leaves, hiding them from the Hypnotist, whose arm goes down to check, revealing an eye inside its palm.

The Hypnotist later appears fixing a wall, unknowingly helping Low and Alone, as it stops the water in the room and allows the two kids to proceed their journey. Later, he finds Low and Alone in a hallway, and immediately begins chasing them again. The three of them end up in what appears to be an office, where the Hypnotist finally reveals his face. As the Hypnotist is about to crush Low and Alone with one of his hands, Low successfully shoots the eye inside it, making it bleed and causing the Resident to retreat.

Low and Alone later find themselves in front of a bed labeled #1331, which Low shows familiarity to. The Hypnotist arrives there and then, using both his arms and face to chase them until the two kids find themselves in a room with a gong. Alone smack the gong, causing the Hypnotist to retreat temporarily, as he soon comes back to chase them, to no avail.

Low and Alone find a mirror to get out of the Institute, but Alone is reluctant to go in, causing the Hypnotist to catch up and grab the mirror, throwing it away. The Hypnotist repeatedly tries to destroy the room to crush Low and Alone, causing a gong to fall down in the room with them. Low and Alone quickly reach it and the girl smacks it again, harming the Hypnotist. Low then shoots one of his arrows into his right hand's eye, causing the Hypnotist to move his arm around until its crushed by bricks and furnitures. The Hypnotist tries his strategy of breaking everything down once again and luckily for the kids, another gong comes crashing down. Low shoots a crate down for Alone to climb and reach the gong, which she smacks and causes more harm to the Hypnotist, whose left arm's eye is then shot by Low. Both his arms are now useless and crushed under by the falling rubble, as the Hypnotist's face falls on the floor. Alone smacks his glasses with her wrench and Low delivers the final blow by shooting him in the eye one last time. The pain causes the Hypnotist to yell and destroy the whole floor, making all 3 of them fall down.

After Low and Alone awaken, the Hypnotist's final appearance is on the ground, unconscious and unresponsive, his hand still twitching under the rubble of the collapsed Institute.

Strategy[]

The Hypnotist's body snakes throughout the Institute, due to his size, maneuverability is limited, he can only appear a few limbs at a time, only showing his face and both his arms if the room is big enough, but never his entire body. He is alerted by noise and will chase Low and Alone if he hears them or sees them with the eyes in the palms of his hands. The eyes in his palms can be shot with Low's arrow, damaging him greatly. He's also vulnerable to the sound of gongs, smacking one with Alone's wrench will disorient him for a while, leaving room to escape him.

During his final fight, he will try to destroy the room to crush Low and Alone. By doing so, he'll accidentally let gongs into the room. As each gong falls into the room, the two kids need to reach it and smack it to briefly stop the Hypnotist's attacking with his hand, allowing the chance Low needs to shoot the eye in his hand to harm him. This is done twice, after which, the Hypnotist will yell in pain and lay his head on the ground. When this happens, Alone will break the shattered lens of his glasses with her wrench, leaving Low to deliver the final blow by shooting him directly in the eye.
