The Pale City is the fourth area Mono and Six pass through in Little Nightmares II.
Description
The Pale City appears to be a complex of dilapidated apartments and quarters standing near the Signal Tower. While most buildings are abandoned, some of them are still inhabited by several Viewers, either watching televisions or jumping off from buildings, committing suicide. Some of the vacant rooms remain in good condition while most of them are in a mess.
Among the buildings there are several abandoned shops, such as a toy store and a supermarket. There is also a post office with piles of envelopes being laid everywhere. The location appears to also have a subway and some rail cars.
Solution
Mono must journey through the inner part of the city and head to the Signal Tower with Six while avoiding the distorted Viewers and the ominous Thin Man.
After taking an elevator up from the Hospital's crematorium, walk past the Hospital's lobby and exit the building through a window to the right.
Mono and Six will return to the rainy streets of the Pale City. Move forward through street, passing an open space with a bus stop and a bench. Proceed to the nearest building after passing passing the bus stop and bench. Go up the stairs and enter the following room. A Viewer will fall down from the ceiling and rush to the room in front of him. The duo will see that the Viewer has rammed his head into a television, dead. Climb up the television and jump onto the window. Travel through the roofs and climb the ladder. Jump onto another roof and climb into the window.
Mono will enter a dark corridor with some Viewers watching televisions. Ignore them and move forward, then enter the gap through the door. At the right, Six will give Mono a boost. Jump up and open the door. Mono and Six arrive at a bathroom with a Viewer watching television in a bathtub. Go through the vent, then follow Six and jump down into the elevator. After activating the elevator, jump quickly to the right side as the elevator continues to ascend. Climb the boards and go into the upper floor.
Six will stay inside the elevator as the elevator doors are locked. Go to the room on the left side, as Mono makes his way into the room, the camera will zoom away to show you the attic, hinting that you need to find a way up there. Pull a drawer under the table and grab the key. Unlock the elevator's door, then pull down the switch inside the elevator to make it descend up. Six will exit the elevator and remain in the upper floor. Only Mono will enter the elevator and pull the lever inside to make it descend. Immediately exit the elevator as it descends to climb up the boards and return to the top floor where six is waiting. Wait until the elevator stops. Six will be waiting for you to give you a boost to activate the lever. Jump up and pull down the lever. Right before the elevator arrives to the upper floor, jump down and land on roof of the elevator. The duo will arrive to the attic. Head right and climb through the boards to proceed.
Mono and Six will see the Signal Tower for the first time as the camera zooms away. Go right and jump onto another roof. Climb up the motif and Mono will encounter a puzzle. Jump up with Six's boost and turn the crank to bring the coat hanger to Six. Turn the crank to bring Six to the other side after she grabs onto it. Later, jump to the other side and Six will grab you. Afterwards, climb up the ladder to move onto the next balcony. Jump up and hang onto the raised ladder with the help of Six to bring it down. Climb up to arrive to another balcony. Climb up the pipe on the same level to reach the top floor, then enter the window to proceed to the next area.
Keep walking right and climb the boards. The building will start crumbling when Mono lands. Push down a door with Six to escape the area. The building will start to fall over, keep running until Mono falls down into a hole while Six is crushed by debris. After recovering, pull out Six from the couch on top of her. Then open a door on the far right with Six's help. Move backward in the hallway and Mono will encounter another activating television. Tune the Transmission for the last time and Mono will be in the ominous bendy corridor again. This time, Mono is able to reach the door. Open the door and a cutscene will play, showing that a tall figure sitting on a chair was behind the door, the Thin man. The Thin Man begins to stand up.
Later, Six pulls Mono out from the television. However, they are not safe yet as the Thin Man begins approaches them from inside the television. After the Thin Man comes out, run back into the hallway. Move forward and enter a kid's bedroom. Hide under a bed. While Mono remains safe under the bed, the Thin Man finds Six and grabs her, taking her away. The Thin Man and Six vanish together. Go back to the room with the television. As Mono travels through the TV, he will be seen passing through a tunnel of flesh and eyes. Later, Mono will pop out and break the screen of a dangling television, landing on a mattress several floors below in a random apartment.
Climb up the cupboard, the shelf and jump onto the couch above and ascend to the upper floor. Travel through an activated television to teleport to another room. Using a crank, move the hanging television Mono popped out of to the other side. Later, run onto the rubble and jump to grab a door handle to open it, this will cause the door to fall return Mono to the room inside. Go through the television again and teleport to the other side to progress. Climb a ladder and enter a room. Jump down the roofs and walk along a wooden board. Jump onto the air shaft and move along the pipes, then swing onto a hook. Afterward, keep walking and climb through an air shaft. Walk along another board and enter a window.
Go down to the floor below using a ladder. Grab the remote and turn on the television. Then travel through to another television on the upper floor. Go to the right and Mono will arrive at the Pale City's Post Office. Jump down the small chasm. Go to the vent on the right side and Mono will arrive at a room with a trolley. Drag the trolley to the middle of the large hole and turn on the television. Travel through it to go back to the area with packages. Use the lamp to swing over the trench to the other side of the room and keep moving forward to the next room. Climb up the chair and jump across the counter. Jump on top of the trolley to the other side of the room and climb the packages to reach the coat hanger. Zipline down with the coat hanger and burst through the window, then open the door.
There will be a female Viewer watching a television. Go to the right side to the kitchen and turn on the hanging television outside the window. Later, turn off the television the Viewer's watching and she will go to the kitchen. Turn it on again and travel through the television to go outside of the window. Walk along the board and climb the ladder to go to the upper roof. Then move to the left and climb the motif.
There will be a male Viewer watching a television. Turn on the television on the other side, then turn off the television the Viewer is currently watching to distract him with the tv on the opposite building. This will lead the Viewer to fall to his death. Turn the television on again and travel through. The television screen breaks as Mono exits through the screen, causing him to nearly fall from the roof. Later, enter the bathroom on the right, then jump down onto the roof. Keep running to the right and do a parkour through a bed. Zipline down with a coat hanger again. Climb up the roof and Mono will see several Viewers looking at the Signal Tower as the camera zooms away. Don't mind them and instead jump down a hole. Mono will land on a sofa.
Go to the window outside, then push the television down the balcony. Enter back to the previous room and turn on the television. Travel through and later Mono will eventually enter the window. Once again Mono nearly falls from the window upon exiting the television. Move right. There will be a Viewer banging a door on the far right. Pull the boards out to let him come out. Once two boards are pulled, quickly run to grab the lever, the lever will activate electricity and electrocute the Viewer as it walks on the water puddle. Switch it off once the viewer is dead. Then enter the room the Viewer was in.
Afterward, turn on a television and go to the disposal hatch on the right. Jump on the trash three times and Mono will descend down into the dumps area. Go to the left and drag a box to pull down the switch. Once the elevator is open, get in and turn the television on. Pull down the switch to go up to the previous floor. Later pull the switch down and travel through the television quickly. After teleporting outside, jump onto the elevator and pass through the gap on the middle floor. Go to the right and drag a box, then enter the vent to proceed.
Mono will be in a bathroom with electrocuted water. Climb up the toilet and jump through the water into the next room. Turn off the television to distract a Viewer. Run back to the bathroom and jump onto the toilet. The Viewer will chase Mono, but will electrocute herself. This will destroy the power in the room. Drag a stool near the television and use it to open the door on the far right. Jump down onto the dumpster and keep moving, then enter the window of a toy shop.
Go to the right and drag a cart, then push it down a ramp onto the electrical waters. Do a parkour onto the counter. Enter a room on the right, then climb a table and jump onto the shelf. Enter the vent and pull down the switch to deactivate the electricity. Drag the trolley into the middle between the shelf and a television on the cupboard. Go back to the switch and activate the power again. Go to the previous shelf and do a parkour onto the cupboard. Travel through the television to progress into a room.
Climb up the television and go through the window. Jump down onto the roof and go to the streets with several Viewers. Turn the television on inside the shop, then turn off the television the two Viewers are currently watching to turn their attention to the television in the shop. Turn it on again later and travel through, but the Viewers behind the fence will break through. Mono will burst out of the television in the shop, breaking it. This will cause the Viewers to go rampant, quickly run to the right and climb through the opening in the wall of the shop. Run behind the shelf while some Viewers are distracted for a a few seconds by the televisions. The viewers will continue their chase, pushing down the shelf of televisions as Mono continues moving forward. Quickly go into the television at the bottom right corner before the Viewers can kill him. Mono will end up inside a random room.
Keep moving to the right and climb up some boards. There will be an activating television with Six in it. Go to the television and try to pull her out. However, the Thin Man will grab Six, pulling her back and will later come out of the television, so go far away from it. After the Thin Man comes in, an axe will fall. Grab the axe and smash the door quickly and run through the gap. Climb up the boards quickly and enter through into the pipes.
Mono will be momentarily safe here. Crouch through a hole and climb up the boards to enter a vent. Walk below the floors where the Thin Man stands while walking. Keep moving right and stay still as the Thin Man tries to inspect the hole. Keep moving right when he teleports away and exit through a vent, then enter the gap to proceed. Right after entering, quickly drag the stool to the right as the Thin Man will walk in a corridor in the back. Climb the ledge and pull out a board, then quickly exit the window before the Thin Man is able to catch you.
Mono will slip through a roof and some rail cars. After landing on one of them, keep moving forward through the rail cart. Run and jump through the window to enter another rail car. The railcar door opens and The Thin Man will reappear to chase Mono again, run forward and jump to another rail car on the right. Keep moving and climb over some luggage, then do a leap onto the next rail car. Later, run up the ramp, jump and pull down a handle to open a door. Keep running and slide through a gap under the door. Then pull the lever to the right to disconnect the rail cars between Mono and the Thin Man. A cinematic cutscene will play, showing that Mono gets hurt by the railcar's impact, breaking his remote in the process.
Once Mono gets on his feet, glitching Six appears. Follow her lead. Eventually, Mono will see a ladder. Climb up the ladder and exit through a sewer grate. Later Mono will confront the Thin Man for one last time with the Signal Tower in the distance. Mono will take off his hat and harness his power, preparing to fight the Thin Man. Neutralize the Thin Man's attempts to grab Mono by matching his patterns in a similar manner to tuning the transmission on a TV. This will knock the Thin Man down for the first time. The Thin Man will attack once again, but this time he'll move his pattern to left and right. Try matching it again to knock him down for the second time. The final stage will be like the second one, but with more moves. Do the same thing and the Thin Man will be knocked down again. This time the Thin Man will start to feel weak and dissolve. Raise both of Mono's hands (by walking towards the Signal Tower in the controls) to pull the Signal Tower forward to him. Once Mono is in front of the tower, the doors open to welcome him inside. Enter the Signal Tower to finish the chapter.
Trivia
- In a secret room with cages, two of the animals inside the cages appear to be giant moths. However, it sounds like a bird chirping.
- It is unknown why it's there. It could be a hybrid, a mutation, or something else, though according to data miners, the moths are unused enemies from the game.[1]
- In one of the promotional posters, Mono and Six hold hands together as the Thin Man confronts them in an alleyway. In the actual gameplay, Six is held captive inside the Signal Tower while Mono duels him alone on the rainy streets of the Pale City.
