My body began shaking as I heard them. Shouts and shrieks of pain. All I could do was stare up at the circular walls, which I had just been inside. This was the true building. There were millions of rooms like the second one I peered into, all the way up with hands and limbs reaching out form the bars that kept them locked in. My heart pounded like one of them. A prisoner trying to get free.
— Noone

The Prisoners[1] are a group of characters from the first chapter of the audio-fiction series, The Sounds of Nightmares. They are humanoid beings and creatures held prisoner in The Stone Giant.

Appearance

The first prisoner Noone encounters is the most detailed, described as having a frail body bound in chains. Their body gave off an awful smell, like bad sausages. The remaining prisoners could not be identified, only their limbs could be seen sticking out from metal bars.

The Workers in the Walls

Noone described seeing the first prisoner in a room via a crack in the stone. He was slumped against a wall in a room with chains all over the floor with pained cries coming through it. In the room, there were three nun-like dresses freshly pressed hanging by a bed. Suddenly; the frail man made the chains jangle as his body slumped against the wall, breathing hard. Noone remembered him having an awful smell, comparing the smell to a sausage that has gone bad. When asked to clarify by Otto, Noone said that it wasn't his breath that smelled bad, but his entire body.

At the end of the chapter, when arriving in a courtyard, Noone described staring up at the circular walls hearing agonizing screams. She realized that they were coming from millions of other prisoners, whose hands and limbs could be seen sticking out of metal bars, all trying to break free.
