The Workers[1] are a group of antagonistic creatures form the first chapter of the audio-fiction series, The Sounds of Nightmares. That are a group of shadowy creatures that lurk between the walls of The Stone Giant.

Appearances

The Workers are described as creatures that remained looking like shadows even in dim lighting. Noone describes them as "things not quite there, not wanting to be seen, as if forgotten." They were also described as holding tools and having faces that "weren't very bright." Noone also includes that these creatures were "not children."

The Workers in the Walls

Noone described hiding in a room when a group of Workers arrived. All but two left the room, the two who stayed proceeding to search through the springs in the room. After being satisfied, they jumped down a hatch. Noone followed, but accidentally alerted them after making a noise. They all climbed after her in unison, and so she ran away in fear, getting her dresses caught in one of the gears. They all stopped their pursuit in order to remove the piece of cloth that had gotten stuck.

The Workers are seen for a second time stalking The Child with Gooey Hair and Noone in the raptors. One of them jumped down and inspected Noone with its tool, but before it could do anything else, The Child with Gooey Hair revealed a stream of light, causing the Workers to flee.

Theories

  • These characters were described in a very similar matter to the Shadow Kids from Secrets of the Maw DLC, The Residence. Like the workers, the Shadow Kids were creatures made of a shadowy material, and they have a particular aversion to light.

Trivia

  • Noone informed Otto that The Workers were the creatures that scared her the most, because they were hidden and nobody knew they existed. She reminded them of when she got the Water Sickness, because it made her feel like things were in her body, but instead of making her "tick" they're killing her.
    • Otto believed that the reason that the Workers made Noone so scared was because they were mindless.
  • The Workers share the same theme as the Living Hands, One Step, Two Step.
