In celebration of the Little Nightmares 3 trailer coming out a year ago (not really a celebration since the game doesn't even have a release date yet) I've decided to recreate one of my oldest discussion posts as a blog, where I dumped a bunch of information about the third game only a month after the trailer released. Now that it's been a year, I'm hoping I can create a larger chunk of information on here to see just how much more we've learned about our next journey into the Nowhere.
Low and Alone[]
Our two main protagonists, the two children that you and a friend can play as together to traverse through the Nowhere. That's right, this game is going to be two-player, which is super cool, right? Well, for most people, no. Do you want to play with your little brother or perhaps even a parent? Well too bad! This game only supports online co-op, so unless you're a spoiled brat with two PlayStations (like me) then you don't get to play with your friends. Oh, but don't worry, surely you can play with your friend who has an Xbox, right? NOPE!!! This game isn't even cross-platform, so you and an online friend have to have the same device or else you can't play with each other, which is honestly such a great decision Bandai Namco. Anyway, enough about the stupid multiplayer, let's talk about Low and Alone. These two kids are probably the most unique-looking main characters in the series. When I first saw the trailer, I thought it was fan-made considering how different these two looked compared to the simple designs of Six and Mono, but it's a cool new approach, I guess. One thing that is very interesting about these characters is that they each have a unique tool to use to progress through the environments and use as defense against certain enemies. Low carries a bow and arrow and can use his impressive archery skills to strike smaller monsters and pierce through decaying objects such as rope. Alone withholds a wrench that she can use to bash through walls, turn cogwheels, and even smash enemies to a pulp. One thing that is interesting about Low in particular is his ability to travel through mirrors, similar to how Mono could teleport through television sets. Low is able to phase through them with ease and even bring Alone with him, but whenever she exits a mirror, it shatters in the process. I'm curious as to where Low could have obtained this ability, and I hope the game does its best to give each of the protagonists somewhat of a character arc.
The Spiral[]
The Spiral is the main location that this game will take place, much like the maw and the pale city, but unlike those locations, the spiral seems not to be one specific location, but multiple in one enormous cluster of lands. The maw and the pale city were mostly composed of dark metal rooms with a mixture of blue and grey backgrounds, but the spiral is very unique. It contains the necropolis, an abandoned desert ghost town that has a day and night cycle, which is something we've never seen in any chapters from the previous games, the fun fair, which has a mixture of turquoise and neon yellow colors, and the factory, which is really only composed of a mixture of green backgrounds. Each environment contains different puzzles, and different entities, which I will talk about now.
The Monster Baby[]
The Monster Baby is the antagonist that has gotten the most screentime when it comes to displaying the future content we are going to get. She is by far the biggest monster we have seen in any of the games, measuring at the size of a kaiju. Her main killing method is her spotlight eye that she can use to turn people into statues, similar to the security eyes from the first game. It has also been heavily hinted that she is very clumsy, leading me to believe that will influence some of the puzzles we have to do with her, and even lead to her eventual defeat. I saw someone theorize on YouTube that Low might use one of the mirrors to deflect Monster Baby's beam and turn herself into a statue on accident, which would be interesting to see. Throughout the Necropolis, there are several statues called The Dwellers, who used to be the main inhabitants, but it has been confirmed that Monster Baby turned them to stone, perhaps on purpose, or maybe as a result of her clumsiness.
Beetles[]
One of the minor enemies in the necropolis are the beetles, which are slightly bigger than our two protagonists. They aren't that big of an issue to deal with, as you can kill them with relative ease. Low shoots his bow at one of the beetles, knocking it to the ground, and Alone goes in for a swift slam to the center with her wrench. Simple as that! There will most likely be more sections with the beetles where they attack in bigger numbers and you have to do something puzzle-related with them, because if it was just the same amount every time with nothing new introduced, the gameplay would become repetitive very quickly.
The Fairgoers[]
Again, it's 5 in the morning as I'm typing this, so I'm gonna take a break and finish this some other time because I need to sleep, and school starts for me soon.
